Columbarium, Crownhill, Milton Keynes:

Following MK Council’s acceptance of a private planning application for a mausoleum on an MK Council cemetery in Bletchley, Adrian Morrow Architects prepared this scheme for a Columbarium to be located on the site of the existing red brick pond, at Crownhill, next to the new Oak Chapel.

The project comprises 500 secure niches and other opportunities for memorials. Each niche will be large enough for two to three urns, and will be arranged around four covered courtyards, each provided with glazed pyramid roofs. A central garden area is proposed which will be open to the elements. The materials will generally be selected to match the Oak Chapel.

The architecture was inspired by the Trenton Bathhouse, in Trenton, New Jersey, by the American Architect Louis Kahn.

The project offers the opportunity to renovate this part of the Crownhill Cemetery and the opportunity for pedestrian links between the new Oak Chapel with the existing Garden of Remembrance.
